For Christmas, I received tons of awesome books from friends and family! Let’s dive in. 1.) The Hobbit + The Lord of the Rings Set by J.R.R Tolkien First up is the Lord of the Rings! I’ve never actually read the books or seen the movies (although I’ve wanted to for a while now.) Now I can enjoy this series! 2.) Empire of Storms + Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas These are the last two books I need to read to be all caught up with the Throne of Glass Series! I’m aware of how problematic this series is but I continue to read it because truthfully, I enjoy the story. On a slightly unrelated note, I’m super mad that they decided to change nearly everything about ToD’s cover… ugh 3.) Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo I’ve read Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology and enjoyed it enough to want to pick up her Grisha trilogy. What I love about Bardugo’s stories is how atmospheric they are; it’s hard to describe, but if you’ve ever read one of her books, I think you would agree. I’m really glad I can add this book to my collection and read it soon! 4.) Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell I remember reading this book a few years back and really enjoying it! I’m eager to re-read this soon and it’s really swell that I can have this on my bookshelf. 5.) The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo Another Leigh Bardugo book! I’m not going to lie—I wanted this book because of its cover. Who hasn't done that before? Anyways, lots of people were saying this book is very magical and whimsical, which is right up my alley. 6.) Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor This is probably the book I’m most excited to read. I read Laini Taylor’s other series, The Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and very much enjoyed that one. I love Taylor’s writing style and the stories she creates. Hopefully, this won’t be an exception! 7.) Now I Rise by Kiersten White This is the sequel to “And I Darken”, a novel I really liked last year. This is historical fiction set in the Ottoman Empire with awesome female characters and lots of diversity. 8.) Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh I’ve never read a Renee Ahdieh book before, but seeing how everyone raves about The Wrath and the Dawn, my expectations are pretty high. This is also a historical fiction novel based on feudal Japan, which is something I’ve never read about. 9.) All the Crooked Saints I’m a huge fan of Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle so this was a logical choice for me. I love that the main characters are Hispanic. I can’t wait to read this! 10.) Blood for Blood I think this series is pretty underrated. I don’t hear lots of people talking about it, or maybe I’m just not looking in the right places. Anyways, I finished the first part of this series (Wolf by Wolf) late last year and I had a blast reading it. Since the last book ended on such a cliffhanger, I cannot wait to see how Graudin has concluded this series. 11.) Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the Shore, + The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle I am a big fan of Haruki Murakami. I borrowed Kafka on the Shore from the library last year and I couldn’t stop reading it. I devoured it in about three days. This lead me to the wonderful world of Murakami. I’m currently reading 1Q84 and it’s fantastic. 12.) Astrophysics for People in a Hurry My family and I are big fans of Neil DeGrasse Tyson, so this was a given. I thought the premise of this book was really fascinating. This book is definitely going to be shared among us! Thank you so much for reading!
xoxo Gabby
