With a new year comes a whole new batch of awesome books! //Jan. 2// THE CRUEL PRINCE: THE FOLK OF THE AIR BY HOLLY BLACK – This book follows our main character, Jude, as she navigates the world of faerie politics. I love the idea of this book because it sounds a little bit like the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas (which is one of my favorite series!). I think the addition of politics and fantasy will make this an interesting read. //Jan. 2// BATMAN: NIGHTWALKER BY MARIE LU—I’ve never read a Marie Lu book and I don’t read many YA books with male protagonists, so I want to give this one a shot. My understanding is that this book is a retelling of Bruce Wayne’s story, which I think I would love, being a huge Batman fan. //Jan. 2// MEET CUTE: SOME PEOPLE ARE DESTINED TO MEET (ANTHOLOGY)—Tons of YA authors come together to write cute stories about people in love. I love cheesy love stories so this is right up my alley. //Jan.9// NICE TRY, JANE SINNER BY LIANNE OELKE—I’ve heard a lot about this book from popular booktuber emmmabooks. From what I’ve gathered, this book is about how Jane Sinner tries to remake herself after being kicked out of high school by signing up for a reality show in her hometown. It sounds like an interesting read, and I’m very excited to pick this book up! //Jan. 16// LOVE, HATE, AND OTHER FILTERS BY SAMIRA AHMED—This is another book that’s been floating around booktube that I would love to get my hands on. This novel is about Indian-American Muslim teen Maya trying to balance her own ambitions and her parents’ expectations, as well as dealing with Islamophobia. I am not usually one for contemporaries, but I’d love to give this a go because we need more diversity in YA! //Jan. 27// A GIRL LIKE THAT BY TANAZ BHATHENA—Zarin Wadia is danger; Porus is madly in love with her. They both end up dead in Saudi Arabia. This book reveals the tale of what happened. If that doesn’t intrigue you, I’m not sure what will. //Jan. 30// THE HAZEL WOOD BY MELISSA ALBERT—Alice’s grandmother dies on her estate, The Hazel Wood. Her grandmother was the author of a cult-classic series of dark fairy-tales. Alice’s life then turns around for the worst: her mother is kidnapped by crazed fanatics of her grandmother’s series that claim to be from the Hinterland, where the stories are set. Alice is left with no choice but to join forces with her classmate Ellery, a big fan of the series to find her mom. //Mar. 13// OBSIDIO BY JAY KRISTOFF AND AMIE KAUFMAN—The third part of the Illuminae Files is almost here! Now we join Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik aboard the Mao trying to get back to Kerenza. Two new members are added to the crew: Kady’s cousin, Asha, and her old flame, Rhys. //Apr. 24// ACE OF SHADES BY AMANDA FOODY—Enne Salta is looking for her missing mother in New Reynes, a city known for its sins. She reluctantly teams up with con artist, Levi, to form a mutually beneficial relationship: where she needs his help and he needs her cash. This book sounds extremely fun and I can’t wait for it to come out! //May 1// A COURT OF FROST AND STARLIGHT BY SARAH J. MAAS— Feyre and Rhysand narrate this tale that connects A Court Of Wings and Ruin to the next new series! This is one of my most anticipated reads for this year. //May 1// ON THE COME UP BY ANGIE THOMAS—Set in the neighborhood of Garden Heights, this companion novel to the bestselling “The Hate U Give” follows the story of an aspiring teen rapper. //May 8// UNDEAD GIRL GANG BY LILY ANDERSON—Wiccan Mila Flores doesn’t care what you think of her. She has her best friend Riley by her side, which is all that matter. When Riley and the two most popular girls at school are found dead, which leads everyone to believe Riley was involved in a suicide pact. Mila then brings the girls back to life to find out what actually happened, but the girls don’t remember what had happened to them. In seven days, the girls are supposed to return to their graves, so Mila has little time to find out who killed them before the killer strikes again. //May 15// ONYX AND IVORY BY MINDEE ARNETT—Kate has been stripped of her title after her father’s attempt at assassinating the king. When she encounters the king’s son, she finds out he was the only survivor of mass murder by the hands of the drake, dangerous creatures that inhabit their land. The two must then unite to investigate what’s been happening. //May 29// LEGENDARY BY STEPHANIE GARBER—I am very excited for the sequel to Garber’s debut, Caraval! This book follows Tella, the younger sister of the last book’s protagonist. I’m expecting the same whimsical prose and plot-twists that keep you turning the page. //Jun. 5// SWEET BLACK WAVES BY KRISTINA PEREZ—Our main character, Branwen, is the lady-in-waiting to a princess who is facing troubles with her kingdom. Branwen’s life turns around when she unknowingly saves an enemy’s life. As she falls in love and finds out an important secret about herself, all she wants is peace between her kingdom and her first love’s. //Aug. 7// #MURDERTRENDING BY GRETCHEN MCNEIL—In the future, a reality-star is elected president and convicted felons participate in a reality-TV show where serial killers hunt them down. When Dee Guerrera wakes up on the floor of the show, Alcatraz 2.0, she must get out before she is killed for a crime she didn’t commit. //Aug. 28// TOIL AND TROUBLE: 16 TALES OF WOMEN AND WITCHCRAFT (ANTHOLOGY)—This anthology includes 16 short stories about 16 witches. //Dec. 4// QUEEN OF AIR AND DARKNESS BY CASSANDRA CLARE—Another one of the books I’m most excited to read in 2018. This is the conclusion to the Dark Artifices trilogy. I won’t share too much about this book because it’s the last in the series, but I must say I am very eager to read this one. I love the atmosphere Clare can create with these books and with these characters. The last book ended on a cliffhanger and I’m ready for answers! Thank you so much for reading!
xoxo Gabby
